The Pulley Pennel Rig

The pulley pennel rig is useful when fishing over mixed ground conditions with loose rock and light weed. A hooked fish will lift the attached capsule off the seabed above the snags and will (like all DVice and DV8 capsules) plane along the surface. Fishing in heavy rock or kelp may; like all other anchoring options, cost you some lost tackle so we would not generally advise using your DVice or DV8 capsules in situations where you would expect to lose them.

On South coast reefs however many anglers replace the grip wires with a plain nose cone (or remove the breakout wires) and use the capsule successfully to present a whole squid or mackerel fillet for bass or conger.
In hook sizes 2/0 and above the pennel hook arrangement allows the angler to present large baits for the big mouthed species such as cod, bass and conger. The 4/0 rig is our favourite for Autumn bass and cod!
The pulley pennel rigs sold on this site are fitted with dual Kamasan B940 hooks in sizes 2 to 1/0 and with Viking pattern 79510 & 79515 in sizes 2/0 and above. We also supply
(by special request) pulley pennel rigs fitted with wire snood lengths for those anglers targeting conger and tope.
