RAZORFISH. If you visit the shoreline after a storm you may find razorfish lying on the beach. On sandy beaches they can be dug at the extreme low water mark. Razorfish can often be found alongside yellowtail lugworm, they can be two forks down and they move quickly. An alternative method is to squirt a strong brine solution onto the top of their keyhole shaped burrow, wait a few moments and then gently hold the razorfish as it pops out of the sand.

Once removed from their shells thread the razorfish onto a 2/0 to 4/0 hook. For large razorfish you may prefer to use a Pennell hook arrangement. A couple of large razorfish will sit happily in a standard capsule. Try a bomber or double pulley rig and cast the baits out to the low water mark on a rising tide.

Many species such as bass, rays, LSD's, cod and huss will take a razorfish bait fished on its own or as part of a cocktail. You can freeze razorfish in their shells for later use.
