LIVE
SHRIMP/PRAWN. A child's
prawn net purchased for a few pounds and a bucket of seawater is all you need.
Push your net through rocky pools and under overhanging seaweed to collect your
supply of shrimp and prawns. Shrimp can be kept alive in cool fresh seawater
but you need to change the water frequently with water of the same temperature.
Invest in a mains or battery powered air pump and you can keep your bait alive
for upto a week.
Fishing
a live shrimp/prawn demands the use of fine wire hooks typically in the 2 (shrimp)
to 1/0 (prawn) range. Use a fixed or pulley paternoster with a 3-4 foot trace.
To hook a shrimp, pass the hook point into the body at the tail joint and then
bring the point out at the 2nd or 3rd joint between the legs. Load the livebait
into a shortie capsule with a plug of seaweed on top and it will arrive safely
on the seabed.
Live
shrimp/prawns are the ultimate delicate bait. Take care of them during casting
with a capsule. Now you can fish live shrimp/prawns over that long distance
reef you just know holds big bass!
